  • Why Are Touch Screen Laptop Computers Becoming Popular?

If you’ve been following the mobile computing market at all, you have probably noticed that several computer manufacturers are now offering touch screen laptop computers.  I believe that this is due primarily to the amazing popularity of the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch,  and iPad.  These three devices have revolutionized the way that people interact with their mobile computing devices.  Not only is it easy and very intuitive to control our mobile devices via touch, it’s also a lot of fun.  People just tend to take to it very easily and in no time at all they are effortlessly navigating their mobile devices without even needing to read the instruction manual.

After Apple introduced the iPhone and iPod Touch, many other cell phone manufacturers followed suit and quickly released their own versions of touch screen mobile devices.

Hewlett Packard was the first computer manufacturer to really jump on board the touch screen laptop computer bandwagon.  They were not the first to develop a touch screen laptop as tablet computers, which are controlled via touch, have been on the market for several years.  Although tablet computers have been around for quite some time, they really didn’t catch on in popularity until Hewlett Packard introduced their Touchsmart line of touch screen laptop computers.  What was so different about the Touchsmart?  Well, let me tell you.  Hewlett Packard did exactly what Apple did and made their computers support multi touch functionality.  Multi touch allows you to do all of the fun two finger gestures that you can do with your a iPhone like “pinch in to shrink” or “pinch out to zoom” when manipulating photographs.

Since you HP introduced the Touchsmart laptop computer, nearly all computer manufacturers have answered by releasing at least one version of their laptop computers with touch screens.  Even Microsoft jumped on the touch screen bandwagon when they released Windows 7.  This is the first operating system to fully support multi touch functionality.  If Microsoft is getting involved in touch screen interactivity, you know that there’s a pretty good chance that in the very near future nearly all laptop computers will be shipped with touch screen displays.
