Storm Doors Offer Year Round Benefits
No CommentsIn the winter or the summer a good storm door can protect the interior door to your house. Storm doors can be used for this purpose on either the front or back door of your home.
When the weather gets cold, a storm door in front of your interior door acts as a barrier. When you are hit with a heavy snowstorm or rainstorm, the door can shield your interior door from damage. Especially in a snowstorm, snow will not build up against your door, then melt and leak into your house.
A storm door also gives you a pocket of air between where it is hung and your interior door. This provides extra insulation for your interior door and for your entire house. This is similar to how a storm window provides protection for your home’s windows.
The extra insulation provided means you can save on energy costs. If more cold air doesn’t get inside your house, you don’t have to use as much electricity to heat your house. If you’re storm door has glass that can be replaced by a screen, you can also get energy savings in the summer because you can open your door and let cool air. This means you won’t have to turn on your air conditioning, resulting in additional energy savings.
Another benefit of storm doors that people don’t think about is added security. If your interior door has glass in it you can look out and see who’s outside your storm door. You won’t have to unlock your door to see who’s there. Then, if your storm door has a lock on it this offers even more year-round security because it provides an extra barrier to a burglar trying to get into your home.
A storm door can also protect the value of your home. If it helps make your interior door last longer, your house will look better. And if your interior door is beginning to look a little worn out, you can put a new storm door in front of it and the house will still look good from the street.
Year-round benefits are a good reason to consider adding a storm door to your home.
