Indications of Flea Bites on Humans
No CommentsFlea bites are not common skin irritations. They are characterized by an extremely itchy sensation and can cause much discomfort. Fleas are parasites that suck blood from their hosts such as cats, dogs and humans. Pets are commonly the target of these annoying parasites, though humans are also their favorite victims. To ascertain if a skin irritation is caused by a flea bite, you must know the common symptoms of flea bites on humans.
Symptoms of Flea Bites on Humans
Flea bites are often mistaken as bites from mosquitoes. In some other instances, the skin irritation is mistaken as heat rash. The most distinct characteristic of a flea bite is the itchiness. Flea bites typically appear on the skin as small red spots or lumps.
Fleas focus their bites towards the feet and legs of humans, though they are known to jump many times their size so it is possible to find bites from other parts of the human body. Some people are specifically sensitive to flea bites. In these hypersensitive cases, flea bites may cause painful welts or swellings on the skin. Welts are exceptionally painful and may cause your skin to feel as if it is burning.
Ways to Stop Flea Infestation
Cleaning is one of the best ways to keep fleas from invading your home. Fleas reside on floor coverings, furniture and other household items. The best way to clean such things is by using a vacuum. Vacuum can suck in dirt as well as live fleas, pupa and eggs. Always make sure that you throw away dirt from the cartridge outside your home.
If you own pets, it is necessary to treat them for fleas. Consult your veterinarian for products that will get rid of the pesky parasites. To finish off the remaining fleas around your home, use flea bombs.
