How To Know Whether Or Not You Are Getting A Good Deal On A Motorhome For Sale By Owner
No CommentsIf you don’t know whether or not you’re getting a good deal on a motorhome, then you have probably not been in the business of buying motorhomes for very long. One way to know if you’re getting a good deal is to use a value guide. Two of the most popular value guides for RVs are the Kelly blue book and the NADA values guide. It is fairly easy to be able to look up a value online. There are essentially four different values for any given RV. The lowest value is the trade-in value. This is what you could expect to get for your RV to trade- in to the dealer and they pay you cash for it. This is also pretty close to the price you would expect to pay for a used RV if you are planning on buying them from RV auctions. Sometimes you can find sellers who are willing to take the trade-in value for their RV, then you can get a really good deal.
The next value is the private party value. This is about 20% higher than the trade-in value. This is a good deal for which a lot of owners will list their RVs and motorhomes for sale by owner. This value is only an approximation of what that motorhome is actually worth. In reality, a motorhome is only worth as much as a buyer is willing to pay for it. Having a private party value gives you a good idea of what something might be worth. Value guides also give you an opportunity to add in extra upgrades that they think will increase the value. The third value is the retail value. This is how much you would expect a dealer to charge if they were selling the RV on their lot. Just because the dealer isn’t charging you the full dealer value doesn’t mean that you are getting a good deal. If a dealer was willing to sell to you for the trade-in value, then you would be getting a very good deal and I would wonder what was wrong with the RV.
