How Big A Smoker Do I Need?
No CommentsIf you are looking at buying bbq smokers, it can be pretty tempting to consider some of the bigger models on the market. Something that looks like it can fit a cow inside and then some would look great in the yard, wouldn’t it? Of course, there are some disadvantages here too. A giant model is going to be expensive to buy and maintain and is going to use a lot of wood to keep it smoking.
Actually, most people who are looking for a smoker should probably consider going smaller. The thing about this sort of barbecue is the amount of useful room that you have in even smaller models. This is pointed out time and again in bbq smoker reviews, but still many buy something that is just too big.
There are a couple of great smokers out there now that are only 18-20 inches across and about 40 inches or so high. This isn’t going to take up a huge amount of space outside. But don’t worry. In this size you can usually fit a whole side of ham and a turkey at the same time! It really is surprising just how much space there is inside.
A model this size also has one great advantage that is key for any smoker. It makes it so much easier to regulate the temperature and keep it constant. This is perhaps the most important factor when you are smoking anything, and particularly big cuts of meat. Getting things too hot or even letting the heat drop too far down can ruin a slow cook in a smoker. After 8 hours, finding that you got it wrong is a very frustrating experience.
Picking out the right bbq smokers should be a fun experience. Don’t get carried away with size. You can get plenty of meat into something that will be both easy to operate and give excellent results every time this summer.
