Guidelines for selecting and preparing healthy desserts
No CommentsCan you imagine a formal dinner without having any desserts? When everything is salty, you need something sweet to balance it out and to add delight ending to your dinner. It is important to have something healthy for your dinner, so that everyone could eat and enjoy. There are a lot of different types of desserts like an apple pie, chocolate cake, strawberry mousse and cream roll but you must be thinking that what kind of desserts can be named as healthy desserts? Does banana delight or carrot cake come under this category? Just because these desserts include fruit or vegetable does not mean it comes into the category of healthy desserts. A healthy diet is not a temporary situation but a lifestyle that you follow, and it does not mean having any thing healthy for a specific period of time and forgetting everything else. The important thing is that whatever we eat should be taken in moderation. Balanced nutrition and moderation are considered two key factors for a healthy d
iet. We should try to have a balanced nutrition diet and that too in moderation. * Avoid artificial colors.
* Avoid preservatives having fancy names.
* Avoid desserts that include hydrogenated oil or partially hydrogenated oil and Trans fat.
* Avoid using High fructose corn syrup as Corn syrup having high fructose is not good for health as it may lead to accumulation of fat in excess amount as compared to same amount of regular sugar consumed.
* When you select a recipe, try something light which has less sugar and less fat.
* Try to prepare a dessert with all the natural ingredients as they will be tastier and healthier.
* Unless prescribed by the doctor, don’t substitute sugar for artificial sweetener, butter for margarine. Use recipes that need less quantity of these products.
* Try using low fat milk products and organic milk.
* Some of the natural ingredients may have more calories but are certainly healthy. For example, nuts like walnuts are rich in calories but they are very beneficial for your body and mind as they contain omega-3 fatty acids.
