Drugs Used For MSRA Treatment
No CommentsThe Staphylococcus bacteria are usually involved in causing skin infections. Staphylococcus aureus is the most common Staph bacterial species that cause skin infections and is found in various areas that humans come in contact with. They are a part of the normal human bacterial fauna and are usually present in the nose and skin of humans. They become invasive only under favorable conditions like ineffective immune system, cuts or wounds.
MRSA or Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most vulnerable skin infection causing bacteria. Staph aureus was initially treated with methicillin after penicillin was invented by Alexander Fleming. But, within two years of methicillin usage, a certain strain of the species developed, which could resist methicillin action and survive the drug treatment. The MRSA infection has taken a good toll of lives as this can lead to death.
With due time, the need for a counter drug was realized and research organizations and medical groups came up with help to find a solution to MRSA bacterial infection. In spite of all the researches going on MRSA is still widely prevalent. The bacteria have developed the ability to resist many antibiotics like oxacillin and amoxillin in addition to penicillin.

For patients who face MRSA attack on a certain area like the nose, they are given nasal treatment and a skin wash to remove the bacteria from the surface preventing further spreading in the person and also to others. For some mupirocin antibiotic was effecting to remove the bacteria from the nose and skin. But the fast evolving species has developed resistance to this antibiotic too.For people who are infected with Staph aureus, it is very essential to give proper drug treatment and care. Flucloxacillin is effective against Staphylococcus aureus but not the Methicillin resistant variety. Very few antibiotics like vancomycin and teicoplanin is now used to treat MRSA infection. An infected patient is immediately hospitalized and kept under isolation so that they do not spread the disease. When hospitalized, the patient is injected or infused with vancomycin or teicoplanin. Vancomycin when injected into the muscles causes immense pain and therefore this practice has been stopped in the hospitals.
When the methicillin resistant form has found its way into the blood stream, then antibiotics like Daptomycin, vancomycin or Linezoid is prescribed which is to an extent effective in removing the bacteria. For wounds on the skin, the usual practice followed is surface antibiotic application. The wound is cut and cleaned and bactrim is applied on the wound.
