Any collection of computers and devices which are interconnected by different kinds of communication channels in order to facilitate communication and data sharing and the devices that are interconnected is called a computer network. In simple words, if two or more computers are connected with each other, by any means, they are said to form a computer network. This network makes it simpler to share information and resources. The main purpose of connecting devices in a network is to facilitate communication between two devices and enable them to communicate well via telephone, instant messaging, email and video conferencing. Also, authorised users on the network can very easily access the storage devices attached to the other devices on the main network and thus share conveniently the data stored on them. This sharing is also possible for resources present on the network. For example, the user on any one of the connected terminals could use the printer connected to other terminal. Although it makes things very convenient and simple, it must be added that computer networks are not very secure on the whole as they make the entire network vulnerable in case any device gets attacked by virus.

As far as client server networks are considered, the server hardware, that is, a single computer is used to manage information and to store it on one single location. The clients in such networks can be either computers or mobile phones as well. Such networks have many tools as well which can help you to achieve huge savings in the costs incurred to the company. It can potentially revolutionise the way your business is run. Also, the costs of the overall hardware are reduced to a great end. There are methods by means of which a back up of all the information can be created and the loss of data can be avoided. Since the connection to the internet can be made by means of a single computer it makes it very easy to monitor the security settings of the network. The server is the access point which makes it extremely easy to control the security over the networks. You can also enhance the level of security of the network by applying regulations to the amount of data that can be accessed and shared. So, networks not only allow you to manage and utilise the sources but also make sure the system is secure.
