Baby Stair Gates Are Important But They Can Be Used In Other Areas Of A House
No CommentsBaby gates are one of the first things that parents think about buying when their baby is old enough to become mobile. It makes sense because as soon as they can crawl they want to move around and explore; you certainly don’t want them exploring things that will hurt them or damage your things. In this article I will explore some areas where baby gates can be used and how they should be fixed.
Baby gates are not just for stairs. Most people associate them with this part of the house for good reason. After all, if a child falls down a staircase the implications are extremely serious if not fatal. Pause for a second though to consider where else in the house a baby gate could be used. Some people have pets that live in a certain part of the house and it is often a good idea to keep children and pets apart. Ideally a child’s immune system should be allowed to develop before they start getting down and dirty with a family pet. Aside from that you wouldn’t want your pet to injure your child.
Kitchens are dangerous places for a child. Unless you have every cabinet securely locked a child will be right on in there. Cleaning chemicals, cookery and sharp items are all to be avoided so a baby gate across the kitchen entrance is advised. The garden may pose a risk to a child depending on what it contains. Ponds or other water features should be strictly out of bounds to a child, as should other areas where harmful objects may be; chemicals, tools, dog mess and so on. Therefore, a baby gate is often useful across an external door to a garden.
How a baby gate should be fixed comes down to where it is to be used and how handy you are at basic DIY. Many baby gates are fixed to a surface permanently with screws. This usually means drilling into a wall and using wall plugs to receive the screws. It may be you want to use the baby gate in a place where drilling is not possible or simply not desirable. In those cases a pressure mounted baby gate is the ideal choice.
Pressure mounted baby gates are an alternative to fixed gates and they require no drilling or screwing. In fact they can be installed within a couple of minutes and taken down again even quicker. They offer a better alternative to messing up your walls and door frames. It also means you can use a gate in one room temporarily then move it elsewhere later to suit your needs.
