  • Alternative Forms of Energy

An alternative form of energy is energy that does not come from fossil fuels. Mostly everyone knows that fossil fuels are particularly harmful to our environment and can think of more than one disaster that left much devastation behind. Looking to other forms of energy is a popular and promising idea. But this is not something only the government is looking into. Many individuals are now using other forms of energy to provide electricity to their homes and farms.

One of the most common alternate forms of energy is the use of solar power because of the many advantages of solar energy. Some hire a company to come in and install solar panels in their homes and others use DIY solar panels. There are numerous guides on the Internet that can lead you step by step on how to install these. Many of these people no longer need to pay another electric bill and others have greatly reduced their bills. All of them are saving money and having a positive impact on the environment.

Another alternative form of energy comes from the wind. Wind uses kinetic energy. The wind blows the blades of a windmill (which looks like an enormous fan), which in turn, powers a generator. Wind is also a clean and renewable energy source though is much more costly to invest in. Windmills generally need to be set up in country locations. Windmills are usually seen in certain states that have large rural areas with high wind.

Water is another source of energy that has been used for years. Turning it into hydrogen has recently shown promising results as a replacement for gasoline and diesel in vehicles. Hydrogen gas is much better for the environment and much safer to use than gasoline.

Geo-thermal energy comes from the earth. It is the energy that comes from the internal heat of the earth. Geo-thermal energy can come from places like volcanoes. The temperature of the earth’s core is about 4,000 degree Celsius!

One more source is bio-fuel. This is fuel that comes from plants or animals. Bio-fuel is completely renewable and also environmentally friendly. This is also being used in the car industry.

With so many viable options to meet our energy needs, it’s no wonder more and more people are making the switch to renewable, environmentally friendly energy sources.
