One of the things that you should know when you are cleaning gutters, is that having the right tools will not only increase your safety, but it will also allow you to do a better job of gutter cleaning, at the same time help you get the job done faster.  One of the tools that I like to use the best is a gutter cleaning rake.  A rake is quick and easy to use. If you put the rake on the end of an eight or 12 foot extension pole, you can reach about 20 feet on either side of where you are working. This allows you to get the job done a lot faster, especially if the gutters are only half full.  The next thing that you should have as part of your gutter cleaning tools is an adjustable ladder. This allows you to be safe on uneven surface or terrain. You’d be surprised at how many uneven surfaces you can find around most homes.

If you need to get on the roof, you should use and apex roofing anchor that attaches to the crest of your roof. This way, you can be safe and even if you do fall off the roof, it will not be fatal. You will also want to have a harness and roofing line.  This equipment used to cost around $200, but fortunately today you can buy it for about a hundred. It is well worth the investment. You can even leave the anchor up on your roof and then you can use it every time you want to do your gutter cleaning. For the most part, cleaning out a roof from the top, is a lot faster than cleaning it out from the bottom. If you feel comfortable, and have a safe anchor, it can also be safer than cleaning them out with a ladder.  If the roof is more than three stories high, I prefer to use a safety line and a roofing harness to a ladder. This is because once ladders are more than two stories high, they are no longer quite as dependable and ladders that are this big, are very heavy to move around by yourself.
