I am not a reckless rider. I take good care of my motor bike. I service it myself regularly, and I take pride in coming back from my rides with me and my bike in one piece. Still, accidents happen. Sometimes you’re unfamiliar with the terrain and lose control, sometimes trail conditions change faster than you can react to them, and sometimes you get a little carried away. Whenever my bike does come home damaged, I like to take care of the repairs myself, and I like to buy used motorcycle parts for the repair. I have many reasons for my affinity for used motorcycle parts.

One of the main reasons for my use of used motorcycle parts is price. I am not made of money, and motor biking can be an expensive sport. Gas alone is one of my main expenses. In the average weekend, I spend a couple of hundred dollars just getting my bikes to and from the trailhead. Gas for rides is another added expense. Oil and other fluids for routine maintenance adds up. There is the cost of protective gear to worry about. Sometimes I wonder if all the money is worth it, but spending time with my family and friends out on the trail is something that I love, and because we all share the same interest, I can’t think of anything that could possibly substitute for us. The memories, bonds, and fun we make more than justify the expense. Because of the money I spend on my bikes when they are running, I have little money left over to get my bikes running again when they break down. Used motorcycle parts are cheaper than new parts. Some people don’t like to use used parts because they see it as a necessity that is beneath them.

I can’t subscribe to this elitist sort of attitude. As long as your bike is running, what does it matter what kinds of parts you use? Maybe if I was a famous motocrosser with more sponsors than I knew what to do with, then I wouldn’t have a problem using new parts whenever I needed them. Maybe my sponsors would insist that every part I put on my bike be glamorous, but I’m not a famous motocrosser. I’m just someone who enjoys riding with my family and friends, so I don’t need fancy parts for the kind of riding I do. I also like buying used motorcycle parts because it is easy to do. All I have to do is use the Internet. I have found a couple of different sites that allow me to simply fill out a parts request. The site will then send my parts request to salvage yards and used parts stores. These stores will then do the searching for me to come up with the parts I need. If they have the parts I am looking for, they contact me to work out payment and delivery.

In this way I can search used parts stores all over the country from my study. This makes finding the used motorcycle parts I need easy and convenient. Even though I can usually find any used motorcycle parts I need quickly, I still try to ride carefully. My friends give me a hard time, but the fact is my riding means I make half the number of repairs that my friends make. This means I stay on the trail longer and spend less money keeping my bike in running condition. When you love an expensive sport like motor biking, you need to save money where you can. I save money by repairing my bike with used motorcycle parts.
